What's New for 2021
The latest Forester now has adaptive LED headlamps with automatic high beams as standard across the range. Also, the Limited model now adds a selectable seven-speed manual mode to its continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Engine, Performance, and Towing Capacity
All versions of the 2021 Subaru Forester are equipped with the same powerful engine, a 2.5L mill producing 182 horsepower and 176lb-ft of torque. The power is passed through a CVT to Subaru's usual all-wheel drive. The result is a super-smooth drive with no surprises under acceleration, cornering, or braking. And unusually for a compact SUV, the Forester has a useful towing capacity of 680kg, a great bonus when the spacious cargo capacity of 2,155 litres isn't quite enough.
Advanced Infotainment and Connectivity Options
Every Forester in the 2021 lineup is fitted with an infotainment touchscreen to control the advanced Subaru StarLink software. Lower trims in the range have a 6.5" display, rising to a larger 8 inches in higher trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both present and correct for smartphone connectivity, enabling device-based navigation and other functions, while higher trims can add advanced built-in navigation for extra ease of use. All models provide either two or four USB ports, while every trim except the entry level also offers standard Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity.

As with virtually all Subaru models, the 2021 Forester scores impeccable marks in crash tests from both the NHTSA and the IIHS. What's more, the Subaru EyeSight driver assist system adds a generous amount of active safety measures to every model, with standard and available options including: • Forward collision warnings. • Front emergency braking with passenger detection. • Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts. • Lane departure warning system with optional keep assist. • Rear automatic emergency braking. • Adaptive LED headlamps with automatic high beams. • Adaptive cruise control on all models.
