A Reworked Forester - Subaru Offers a Significant Redesign to Its Favourite SUV

Drivers that like the boxy impressiveness of a Subaru SUV will love the redesign of the 2022 Subaru Forester compact crossover. The Forester now boasts a more truck-like appearance on the outside will still providing a comfortable two-row layout and plenty of cargo space on the inside.

Overview

Practicality remains a top priority at Subaru, and the 2022 Forester definitely checks off that box. Even with a significant redesign, the Forester's cabin environment remains as comfortable and practical as ever with plenty of convenient storage spaces and room for up to five passengers.

What's New for 2022

The 2022 redesign of the Forester reworked its exterior with blockier-looking front headlamps, a revised grille, and new wheel designs. Inside, the Forester adds a panoramic sunroof on all models except for the entry-level trim. Additional upgraded features include new camera sensors for the EyeSight suite of driver-assistance features, a new Automatic Emergency Steering system, a torque-vectoring system, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and more.

Models and Pricing

Starting at $29,495, the 2022 Subaru Forester is offered in seven different trim levels: Forester, Convenience, Touring, Sport, Wilderness, Limited, and Premier. While every model offers value as well as Subaru's EyeSight driver-assist technology, the Touring model offers the best mix of value and features.

Starting at $34,895, the Touring model increases the size of the touchscreen infotainment system to eight inches and adds in a heated steering wheel, power-sliding large glass sunroof, power rear liftgate with memory function, and Subaru rear/side vehicle detection system (SRVD).

Performance

All 2022 Subaru Forester models are powered by the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 182 horsepower and can tow up to 680 kg. It pairs with a continuously variable transmission to route power to Subaru's trademark all-wheel drive (AWD) system. While the Forester does not offer much off-road capability, it performs well on the highway with competent handling and a compliant, refined ride.

Design

The Forester offers a nice interior finish with high quality materials, a good driving position, and great visibility. The back seat offers plenty of room for kids or adults, and the cargo area is one of the largest in the segment.

Infotainment

All Forester models come standard with an infotainment system that features a touchscreen display and runs Subaru's latest Starlink interface. A 6.5-inch display is standard, but a larger 8.0-inch unit is added on higher-end trim levels. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability are also standard on all trim levels, and all but the base Forester model receive onboard Wi-Fi via a 4G LTE data connection.
